Interviews with people who have taken maternity leave or childcare leave
Q. I imagine that before and after giving birth, you had some physical and mental difficulties while coming to work.
Please tell us what helped you and what made you glad to work at this workplace or this company.
A.Before my maternity leave, when I was about eight months pregnant, I was given a parking space near the company entrance, so I didn't have to worry about walking on snowy roads with a heavy belly.I felt relieved that they were taking care of me.
When it came to taking childcare leave, the rate of taking leave up to the age of 1 was 100%, so there was no atmosphere that made it difficult to take leave, and I was able to raise my child without any worries.I was able to get a break.
Also, many people have experience with maternity leave and childcare leave, so it was very helpful to have an environment where I could ask for advice.
I returned to work when my child was 1 year and 3 months old, but at first he didn't have much energy and would get sleepy by 18pm.
I had no choice but to take part in a reduced-hours work shift, and they kindly agreed to it. In addition to the systems in place, I once again felt that what makes this company so appealing is the warmth of its people.
Q. Were you worried about anything when you returned to work from parental leave?
A. Since I joined the company, I have been working full-time and my work involves a lot of overtime, so I am worried about not being able to work in the same way after returning to work.I felt anxious and guilty.
I was also worried that if I were to be transferred to another department, I would have to remember a lot of things and would not be able to balance work and child-rearing.
We had already had one person on staff before my maternity leave, but we added another person before I returned.
Improvements have been made so that while raising children, we can work together with people who have experience in raising children and support each other.
I have also returned to the same department as before my maternity leave, and am now able to perform the same tasks in a familiar workplace.
I am very grateful.
Q. Are there any special measures you take to work shorter hours?
A. Working hours are from 8am to 17pm, but from 9am to 16 pm, I am working a 2-hour shortened shift.
Unlike before giving birth, instead of doing everything by myself, I work in cooperation with others.Because it became an environment,I've become able to finish my work within my working hours without any special effort.
I am very grateful for the consideration of the people at work.
Q: What was the most difficult part about balancing work and childcare?
A.It was very difficult having to take time off work often due to my child suddenly becoming ill.
I feel very bad about causing trouble to my coworkers,I'm grateful that people follow me because we're in the same boat.
In addition, childcare leave is also available, so you can take care of your children without using your own paid leave.I am very grateful.
