Interviews with people who have taken maternity leave or childcare leave
Q. I imagine that before and after giving birth, you had some physical and mental difficulties while coming to work.
Please tell us what helped you and what made you glad to work at this workplace or this company.
A.Before my maternity leave, I was about eight months pregnant, so I was able to use the parking lot near the company entrance, and I didn't have to worry about walking on snowy roads even though my belly was big.I felt reassured by the consideration shown to me.
Furthermore, regarding taking parental leave, the parental leave rate for up to one year of age was 100%, so there was no atmosphere that made it difficult to take leave, and I felt at ease taking parental leave.I was able to get a break.
Furthermore, the fact that many employees have experience with maternity and childcare leave, creating an environment where it's easy to talk to colleagues, and the availability of systems such as reduced working hours, along with the warmth of my coworkers, made me realize once again how fortunate I am to be working at this company.
Q. Were you worried about anything when you returned to work from parental leave?
A. Since joining the company, I have worked full-time, and my job involves a lot of overtime, so I am concerned that I will not be able to work in the same way as before after returning to work.I felt anxious and guilty.
I was also worried that if I were to be transferred to another department, I would have to remember a lot of things and would not be able to balance work and child-rearing.
However, I was allowed to return to the same department I was in before my maternity leave, and I'm able to utilize my previous experience in a familiar work environment. Furthermore, with the support of my superiors and colleagues, I'm able to work with peace of mind.
Q. Are there any special measures you take to work shorter hours?
A. Working hours are from 8am to 17pm, but from 9am to 16 pm, I am working a 2-hour shortened shift.
Unlike before giving birth, I now consciously work in collaboration with those around me, rather than trying to handle everything on my own. By prioritizing tasks and working efficiently, I'm now able to finish my work within working hours.
I am extremely grateful for the consideration and support I receive from my colleagues at work.
Q: What was the most difficult part about balancing work and childcare?
A.I find it challenging that I often have to take time off work due to my child's sudden illness.
I feel bad about causing trouble for my colleagues at work,,It's very helpful to have them follow up with me, saying, "We're in the same boat."
Furthermore, there is a system in place that allows employees to take childcare leave, which means they can care for their children without using their own paid leave.I am very grateful and feel that they are supporting me in balancing work and childcare.
